Oral history interview with Emilie Schwabacher, May 26, June 10, and June 15, 1982.

Schwabacher recalls her impressions of Seattle and its Jewish community in 1931. She describes Nathan Eckstein and also her husband, Morton Schwabacher, in detail, and talks briefly about the family business and social life. She remembers Rabbi Samuel Koch and the anti-Zionist issue in the community. Lastly, she analyzes her daughter's acceptance of Christian Science.

Nathan Eckstein was born on January 10, 1873, in Bavaria, Germany. In 1888, he came to New York and worked in the wholesale grocery business. He married Mina Schwabacher in 1902 and the two moved to Seattle, Washington, where Eckstein entered into business with his Schwabacher in-laws and eventually succeeded Bailey Gatzert as president of Schwabacher Bros. & Company.
